General and Special Senses Flashcards
Cornea
Anterior clear covering that allows light to enter the eye; refract light
Iris
Colored portion of eye that regulates amount of light entering eye
Pupil
Hole in center of the iris where light enters
lens
Biconvex structure that functions to refract light
Scerla
Connective tissue layer that gives eye shape
Choroid
High vascular layer that absorbs lights
Ciliary body
Secretes aqueous humor; contains ciliary muscle which alters lens shape
Retina
Layer contains photoreceptor
Fovea Centralis
Area of high visual acuity
Optic Nerve
Cranial nerve that transmit visual light
Lacrimal Gland
Secretes fluid (tears) to lubricate and cleanse eye
Rectus Muscle
group of muscles which move or roll eyeball
Aqueous Humor
Fluid in anterior region that nourishes lens and cornea
Vitreous Humor
Nonreplenished fluid in posterior region that maintains eye shape and holds retina in place
Superior rectus
Cranial nerve 3 - oculor motor
