General Resume Questions Flashcards

Q

Tell me about yourself.

A

Sure, I’d love to. I’ll start with a bit about my career.

I’m currently a senior product manager at Visa, where I’ve worked the last 3.5 years. I’m working right now in Visa’s consumer product organization, working on building out our credit and lending products. My mission right now is to deliver more transparent, frictionless and contextual credit experiences to consumers via our banking and merchant partners. At the same time we are trying very hard to grow our business in credit in Europe, because in many markets credit isn’t well accepted by consumers and in the markets that it is, MasterCard and our competitors have the share. EU is a really competitive market for the end consumer with the growth in startups and innovation in the space, and I love the challenger here where if you don’t deliver a good consumer experience to customers, they will leave you.

I’ll tell you a little about some of the projects that I’ve been working on. I’ve been very focused on the consumer experience and its variations across the 35+ markets I cover. I’ve launched several consumer-focused proof of concepts including:

  • An API set that allows third parties to offer instalment plans to consumers
  • A financing checkout widget
  • Progressing on others including a lending marketplace & an instant lending origination platform.

Prior to being offered the role in London, I worked within our Global Products organization in SF headquarters. I partnered with strategic global product initiative teams to become a PM focused on new product ideation and global expansion. This function was new within the organization (historically there has been pretty poor link between HQ and regional offices) - so I had the opportunity to launch cool products while also building out new business operational process (new marketing and sales enablement processes) that improved internal communication and product roadmapping.

Prior to that, at Visa I was on a strategy and operations role under senior leadership of North America that allowed me to enhance executive presentation skills. I became interested in product during this time and took some JavaScript and front end we courses to beef up tech skills.

Went to UC Berkeley and studied in Santiago, Chile in college which allowed me to get global exposure and strong writing and communication skills.

In my free time I’m a cofounder of a company that is working to make it easier for restaurants to work with food ordering and delivery apps. I’m also a wine lover since my family is originally from Napa and am busy exploring Europe.

Right now I’m looking for a product management role with a rapidly changing company. I think my experience as
