  • Pumps.
  • Fire Rescue Units.
  • Fire Investigation Units.
  • CBRN (Rapid Response Teams).
  • Command Units.

Where should the Gerda key be kept?

A

The key and drill bit, with protecting cover are to be kept in the leather pouch. The pouch is to be worn at all times (except when the key is in use) on the uniform belt of the officer in charge.

Where is the Gerda key to be kept If the appliance is redeployed or taken off the run?

A

The key must be placed in the station safe until the appliance is returned or placed back on the run.

A

What actions should you take if the Gerda key does not locate correctly in a lock?

A

Excessive force must not be used!

Remove key from the lock and clean the inside with the drill bit provided, if the key/lock still fails to operate correctly then another key should be tried.

If this fails to open the lock, alternative means of entry should be sought. Only in extreme emergencies should forcible entry be resorted to.

Do Fire Rescue Units, Fire Investigation Units, Command Units and CBRN (Rapid Response Teams) have to inform Brigade Control if their Gerda Key is lost or stolen?

A

No!

They do not have to inform Control if these keys are lost or stolen, as they do not carry the attribute for mobilisation.
