GI Flashcards
Peds GI
Two categories of intestinal obstruction neonates
Name samples in each
High (Midgut volvulus, malro, duodenal atresia/stenosis, D web, annular pancreas, J.atresia)
Low (Hirschspring, Meconiumk plug, ileal atresia, meconium ileus, anal atresia/malformation)
Common location for duodenal atresia/stenosis
Ampulla of Vater
Duodenal atresia is commonly associated with… ?%
Downs, 30%
VATER
Vertebral
imperforate Anus
TracheoEsophageal fistula
Radial and Renal dysplasia
Double bubble differential
dilatated stomach and proximal duodenum i
- duodenal atresia
- midgut volvulus
- Most likely atresia as with acute obstruction the duodenal bulb should not be dilated as it would be in acute midgut volvulus*
Duodenal atresia and midgut volvulus
Can do UGI: Distal gas is seen with atresia
NEC–what is
Idiopathic enterocolitis. Ischemia, infection
NEC imaging
Radiogrh
- focal dilatation of bowel–usually RLQ
- Unchanging bowel gas pattern on serial imaging
- Unfolded small bowel loops with loops separation suggestive of bowel wall thickening
- pneumatosis intestinalis
- portal venous gas
Ultraspund
-Thickened bowel lobes
NEC signs/anecdotes
Football sign: Air around falciform ligament
Rigler: Air on both sides of bowel
