Industrial Revolution - transformed how society produced products
prior to IR products produced by hand in ‘cottage industries’ (located in people’s homes) this was slow to produce and required lots of manual labour
after IR products produced more efficiently in factories which operate 24 hours a day
Industrial Revolution - change in migration patterns
no more ‘cottage industries’ instead peoples needed to work in factories in cities so people migrated to urban areas and change in agriculture meant less farmers needed so farmers also migrated to urban areas in search for work
Industrial Revolution - changes in culture
families work in factories instead of at home
new urban areas had impact on culture as families become busier, rise of segregation, rise of class systems and rise of consumerism
Industrial Revolution - transformed agriculture
new farming practices using new technologies which increases crop yield
TMT more food produced created a food surplus which allows for specialisation
Industrial Revolution - creating trade
advances in steam engine meant countries could trade around the world and have access to more markets leading to further development of ports being built in colonies and new technologies used to create canals, railways and infrastructure to support global trade
