What was politics like in 1783 and how did it start to change?
In 1783, Britain had suffered the humiliating loss of the American Colonies. There was a financial stagnation brought about by war. By 1885, the political landscape changed to an extent that the supremacy of the ruling class was in decline and franchise had been extended to two thirds of the male population.
