What different purposes do nouns have?
It can function as a subject, object, direct object, subject complement, object complement, appositive, adjective, and adverb
What is a concrete noun?
A concrete noun names anything (or anyone) that you can perceive through your physical senses: touch, sight, taste, hearing, or smell.
What is an abstract noun?
Ab abstract noun names anything which you cannot perceive through your 5 senses.
What is the difference between a countable noun and a non-countable noun?
A countable noun can be counted, meaning they have singular and plural forms. We ask, “How many?”
A non-countable noun cannot be counted. They have no plural forms. We ask, “How much?”
What is an action verb?
An action verb expresses action, and it can be either transitive or intransitive.
What is a transitive verb?
A transitive verb has a noun that received the action of the verb (direct object).
Ex. She held the pen.
What is an intransitive verb?
An intransitive verb is followed by an adverb or an adverbial phrase, never by an object.
Ex. George sits by the fire.
What is a linking verb?
It connects the subject of the sentence to a noun or adjective that renames or describes it (this noun or adjective is called a subject complement)
“To be” is the most common linking verb.
What is a helping verb?
It is used before other verbs to convey additional information regarding aspects of possibility (can, could) or time (was, did, has).
The helping verb and the main verb together are called a verb phrase.
What is an adjective?
An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying words.
Articles (a, an, the) can also be considered adjectives (describes which one or any).
What is a possessive adjective?
My, your, his, her, it’s, out, their
Possessive adjectives do not use apostrophes.
What is a demonstrative adjective?
This, these, that, those
Be careful! Demonstrative adjectives are identical to demonstrative pronouns except in their function
Ex. That desk, this pen
What is an interrogative adjective?
Which, what

Ex. What girl, which pencil
What is an indefinite adjective?
Many, any, some, etc.
What is an adverb?
It can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause.
It indicated manner, time, place, cause, or degree and answers questions such as, how? When? Where? And how much?
What is a conjunctive adverb?
It joins 2 clauses together.
Ex. Consequently, finally, also, however
What is a pronoun?
It is used to replace nouns or other pronouns. It makes sentences less cumbersome and repetitive.
What is a personal pronoun?
Subjective case, he, she
Objective case, then, him, her
Possessive case, her, his, hers
What is a demonstrative pronoun?
It points to and identified a noun or pronoun
Ex. This, that, these, those
What is an interrogative pronoun?
It is used to ask questions.
Ex. Who, whom, which, what, whoever
What is a relative pronoun?
It links one phrase or clause to another phrase or clause.
There are the same words as interrogative but are used to link, not to question
