what are primary colours?
they can be mixed together to make many other colours (blue, red and yellow)
what are secondary colours?
colours made by mixing primary colours (orange, purple and green)
what are complementary colours?
found opposite each other on the colour wheel. these colours are contrasting, they stand out against each other and can seem more intense when next to each other
what is hue?
another word for colour. it’s the actual colour
what is tone?
how light or dark something is
why are bar charts good?
it’s easy to compare results and easy to understand/read off
why are pictographs good?
make slightly dull information look more interesting
why are pie charts good?
make it really easy to compare the size of different categories
what is cartridge paper?
has a textured surface, which is good for sketching with pencils, crayons, pastels, ink and watercolour
what is layout paper?
thin and translucent paper, used for general design work - particularly sketching ideas
what is bleed proof paper?
it’s used by designers when drawing felt-tips and marker pens. the ink doesn’t spread out (bleed)
what is tracing paper?
it’s translucent, used to copy images
what is the weight of paper and board measured in?
gsm (grams per square metre)
