Group 1- Alkali Metals Flashcards
What elements are in Group 1- the alkali metals?
Lithium. Sodium. Potassium. Rubidium. Caesium. Francium.
What is the pattern in group 1?
When you go down the group the reactivity of the element increases
What is the most reactive element in Group 1?
The most reactive element in Group 1 is Francium
What happens if lithium reacts with water?
Lithium metals reacts slowly with water to form a colourless solution of lithium hydroxide. (LiOH)
What happens if sodium reacts with water?
Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
What happens when Potassium reacts with water?
Potassium metal reacts very rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH)
What melting point is lithium?
180*C
What melting point is sodium?
98*C
What melting point is potassium?
64*C
