10
Q

How is even more hydrogen formed after reacting with methane?

A

reacting carbon monoxide produced with even more steam to make hydrogen and carbon dioxide

CO(g) + H₂O(g) ⇌ H₂(g) + CO₂(g)

Q
  1. Producing oleum equation
A

SO₃ + H₂SO₄ (concentrated)–> H₂S₂O₇

Sulfur trioxide + CONCENTRATED sulfuric acid –> Oleum

sulfuric acid state symbol here is liquid not aqueous

16
Q

Why cant concentrated sulfuric acid be made directly from sulfur trioxide

A

Reaction is very exothermic and acid would boil and splash, so its for safety

17
Q
  1. Producing sulfuric acid equation

what is sulfuric acid here used for

A

H₂S₂O₇ + H₂O –> 2H₂SO₄

some of sulfuric acid produced here is used in step 3 to make oleum, rest is sold as chemical

Oleum + WATER –> Sulfuric acid

18
Q

Properties of sulfuric acid

A

Dilute sulfurc acid:
used as regular acid in acid base reactions

Concentrated sulfuric acid:
- Dehydrating agent (solids)
- Drying acid, or neutral gases (fluid)

19
Q

uses of sulfuric acid

A
  • making soapless detergents
  • making fertilisers
