Q

What is EKG(Electrocardiogram) used to diagnose?

A
  1. Ischemia (poor blood flow to the heart muscle)
  2. Myocardial Infarction (Heart attack)
  3. Abnormal conduction rhythms of the heart
  4. Heart chamber enlargement (Hypertrophy)
  5. Measuring the effects of drugs/devices used to regulate the heart

Q

Describe the Endocardium

A

Innermost layer of the heart wall comprised of thin smooth layers of endothelial cells and connective tissue which lines the hearts inner chambers, valves and muscles

Q

Describe the Myocardium

A

Thick, muscular middle layer of the heart consisting of cardiac muscle fibres only found in the heart.
The Myocardium is the largest portion of the heart wall and is responsible for the pumping action of the heart contracting with each heartbeat, pumping blood.

Q

Describe the Epicardium

A

Outer most layer of the heart wall formed by squamous epithelial cells and connective tissue containing nerve fibres, blood vessels, fat and capillaries.
Main coronary arteries are located on this layer.
