Allowed California to be free, led to the fugitive slave act, and many territories of New Mexico and Utah open to slavery.
Dread Scott case
John Emerson’s wife wated to keep him but Dread Scott thought he was a free man. They went to court and was called a free man. The wife appealed and they said he was a slave. They took it to the Supreme Courts and they ruled in favor of the wife.
Lincoln Douglas debate’s
Lincoln challenged to a series of debates. They debated seven times. Slavery was the importint issue.

The terriotories of Kansas and Nebraska would become states and the people living there would vote if there would be slavery there or not
