Human Nervous System Flashcards
Structure of the human nervous system
Central nervous system > Brain
> Spinal cord
Peripheral nervous system > Cranial nerves
> Spinal nerves
Explain the voluntary action
Definition: Conscious actions conducted under one’s will
Example: Reading, Peristalsis
Pathway of impulse: Stimulus»_space; Affector (sensory nerves)»_space; Brain»_space; Effector (motor nerves)»_space; Response
Explain the involuntary action
Definition:
● Actions that occur immediately without conscious control
● Divided to two sections: medulla oblongata (happen naturally) & spinal cord (need stimulus)
Example:
○ Heartbeat (medulla oblongata)
○ Sneezing when dust enters the nose (spinal cord)
Pathway of impulse: Stimulus»_space; Affector»_space; Effector»_space; Brain
Importance of human nervous system in daily life
• Controls and coordinates organs and parts of the body to carry out processes in the body
Example: breathing
• Prevent us from being injured
Example: Temporarily, partially or completely paralysed
