Amlodipine

A

Route: Oral

Indications: hypertension, angina pectoris, vasospastic angina

Contradictions: hypersensitivity, systolic BP <90mmHg

Side Effects: nausea, dizziness, fatigue, flushing

Adverse effects: peripheral edema, angina, bradycardia, hypotension

RN considerations:
Monitor BP and pulse before therapy & periodically during therapy
Monitor intake and output ratios and daily weight
Monitor signs for heart failure

Patient teachings:
Take drug exactly as directed and do not exceed recommended amount
