What are the common examination findings?

A

Inspection - Overweight, slow, depressed, deep voice

Hands - Cold, carpal tunnel, brittle nails and hair

Pulse - Slow

BP - Hypotensive

Eyes - Peri orbital oedema

Neck - Goitre - may have scar from previous surgery causing hypothyroid

Reflexes - Hyporeflexic

Myopathy

What are the investigations?

A

To finish the exam i would like to - Neurological examination, CVS

By the bed - History, obs

Bloods - TFTs plus antibodies, FBC for anaemia (normocytic) and to check for impact of menorrhagia, Lipids, U/E

Other - ECG for heart signs, Thyroid scan

What are the key investigation findings?

A

TFTS:

Primary - high TSH and low T4 - Hashimotos

Secondary - Low TSH and how T4

Anti TPO - Hashimotos

ECG may show Bradycardia

Anaemia
