Marxist ideology
-education, media + religion = ISA
-brainwash proletariat to accept capitalism
-creates FCC-prevents communist revolution
-marx-eventually wc would see through rc ideology-develop class consciousness
-wc would rise up and cause communist revolution.
Neo-Marxism ideology
-Gramsci
-Rc ideological domination=hierarchy
-coercion-police,army,prisons,
-if rc accept hierarchy=no revolution
-hegemony=incomplete;
1. rc is a minority-create power through alliances
2. proletariat has a dual conscience-can see through dominant ideology-poverty + exploitation they experience under capitalism.
-Organic intellectual - charismatic leader-counter hegemony
Feminist ideology
-started as marxist viewpint, adapted to study gender issues.
-most societies in history = male dominated
-patriarchal ideology-set of ideas that justify male power.
-excluded from education -believed they should not be involved
-religions-exclude women from key positions+justified male power as being natural
-believe it’s their role to change patriarchal ideology.
Manheim - ideology
-he sees all knowledge as being partial/one-sided
-all knowledge + belief systems represent viewpoint if one particular group=its interest
-relationism-all knowledge is knowledge from a certain position
-2 types of worldview
1. ideological thought - interests of privileged or dominant groups in society-justifies existing of order
2. utopian thought-interests of un der privilaged+justifies social change-offers vision of how society can be organised differently
Conclusion - Postmodernism
-science has “truth”
-Lyotard-science=another metanarrative-falsely claims to process the truth
-theories + science=one big story on how society used to be
-science claims to improve society-in reality- another discourse (way of thinking used to dominate people)
-science has become technoscience - serves capitalism by producing commodities for profit - society had changed within rise of technololgy.
