identification- conformity to social roles Flashcards
social roles
the parts individuals play as members of a social group, which meet the expectations of that situation.
deindividuation
a state in which individuals have a lower self-awareness and a weaker sense of personal responsibility for their actions. This may result from the relative anonymity of being part of a crowd
dehumanisation
degrading people by lessening of their human qualities
briefly explain conformity to social roles (include 2 examples where this can be seen)
individuals learn how to behave by looking at social roles others play in situations and then conform to them.
-E.g. in environmental protesting they are prepared to take on the identification and morals of their group but in football hoolaganism they act out of social norms as they identify with the norms of violence due to their public group.
-conformity to social roles therefore involves identification but this type of conformity can not be as strong as internalisation because individuals social roles are different for different social situations and this is only public conformity.
