Osteomalacia
Bones poorly mineralized; calcium salts not adequate; soft, weak bones; pain upon bearing weight
Rickets
Osteomalacia in children; bowed legs + other bone deformities; bone ends enlarged and abnormally long; vitamin D deficiency
Osteoporosis
Group of diseases; bone resorption outpaces deposit; spongy bone of spine + neck of femur most susceptible
Paget’s Disease
Excessive and haphazard bone deposit and resorption; bone made too fast and poorly; rarely occurs before 40
Luxation
Dislocation; abnormal separation of a joint
Subluxation
Incomplete or partial dislocation; may resolve on its own or with help from chiropractor
Prolapsed/Herniated Disc
Occurs when outer fibers of intervertebral discs are injured; soft material ruptures out of its enclosed space
Arthritis
Swelling or tenderness of one or more joints; joint pain and stiffness
Osteoarthritis
Type of arthritis; caused by old age
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Type of arthritis; caused by autoimmune disease
Tendonitis
Inflammation and irritation of tendons; due to injury or overuse
Bursitis
Inflammation of fluid-filled sacs in joints
Sprain
Stretching or tearing of ligaments
