A

It identifies 9 protected characteristics and 4 types of discrimination:

The act states reasonable adjustment must be made to help a disabled person if they would in a significant disadvantage if the works were not undertaken. Works must be ‘reasonable’ in cost, extent and disruption.

Q

Please provide an example of direct and indirect discrimination?

A

Direct discrimination is treating someone with protected characteristic differently. EG direct refusal of a service due to personal opinion.

Indirect discrimination - putting rules or arrangements in place that apply to everyone, but that put someone with a protected characteristic at an unfair disadvantage. EG may be a minimum height requirement for a job where height is not relevant to carry out the role.

Q

How do you promote D&I personally?

A

I have undertaken D&I training to understand how different religious beliefs might impact a person’s working habits and how deadlines should be set to accommodate these.

I am also a member of our outreach scheme providing talks to sixth form pupils in local schools who are considering different career options who might not necessarily be exposed to a career in surveying.
