Individualistic Theories Flashcards
What is the learning theory?
Bandura believed children learned through observation.
What was the Bobo doll experiment?
Bandura carried out a series of tests involving a bobo doll. The children were exposed to a different model based on aggression. There was aggressive, non-aggressive and control.
What were Bandura’s findings?
The children who observed the agressive model were more likely to repeat the aggressive behaviours.
Girls were more likely to imitate the physically aggressive behaviour if they see male models, however if they see a female model they are more likely to imitate verbally aggressive behaviour.
Boys were more likely to imitate same-sex models than girls were
How do Bandura’s findings link to criminality?
Criminal behaviour can be learned through observation. Some people learn criminal behaviour from those around them, e.g family.
What is the differential association theory?
Sutherland considered different learning experiences. It says that people learn values for criminal behaviour from associations with different people.
What is the psychodynamic theory?
The psyche is divided into 3 parts: The ID, the superego, and the ego. These should be balanced in childhood, and if they are not it may lead to criminality.
What is the id?
A pleasure seeking, unconscious drive.
What is the superego?
Makes up society’s standards and views. (ethics).
What is the ego?
The main aim is to control the desires of the Id (the balancer)
What research supports the psychodynamic theory?
What is the psychological theory.
What are Eysenck’s dimensions of personality?
What type of personality is more likely to offend according to Eysenck?
