- long, precise, firm strokes

Straight: used for cutting tissues near body surface
Curved: for use within a cavity/deeper wound
- sharp or blunt dissection - tough fascial planes/connective tissue

For sharp and blunt dissection of DELICATE tissues only

used to cut bandage without injuring skin
Rat tooth (Adson) forceps - very focal hold -> tissue damage
- preferred for skin, fascia
DeBakey Forceps
- atraumatic
- used for blood vessels/delicate tissue
Smooth Thumb Forceps
- more traumatic thn rat tooth
- Used to remove dressings, sutures, grasp swabs, etc
Mosquito Forceps
- use on small vessels/point bleeders

Kelly Forceps (Crile if grooves on entire surface)
- used on moderate sized vessels

- Primarily for the ligation of stumps and pedicles
