What are the 3 main parts of the skin? (Layers)
- Epidermis: outermost layer
- Dermis: middle layer
- Hypodermis: loose connective tissue and fat cells
What are the 4 phases of wound healing?
- Hemostasis
- Inflammation
- Proliferation
- Remodeling
What are 3 types of biopsies?
- Punch: metal tube that gets punched into the dermis or subcutaneous layer
- Scalpel or razor: for superficial lesions
- Scalpel: deep lesions or tumor
What do skin scrapings help diagnose?

Most common in the cervix and shaft of penis

- Small flat blemishes, pimples
- Inspected
- Oral & topical antibiotics
What is tinea?
(Ringworm, athletes foot) caused by a fungal infection
Can be caused by walking on wet surfaces
What is tinea capitis?
Ringworm of the scalp
Red round lesion
What is tinea corporis?
Ringworm of the body
Flat dry lesions scaly
What is tinea pedis?
Athletes foot can be caused by sweaty feet
