- micro perspective focused on inside schools and the interaction between teacher and pupil within classroom

- self fulfilling prophecy is said to work in cohesion with the labelling theory
- labelling is believed to be detrimental to self esteem and self concept
- its argued that stereotypes held by teachers concerning concepts such as “intelligence’, ‘ability’, are importance factors related to social class and the determination of educational achievement.

when a label has been successfully been applied, the main characteristic has become their master status

where the student refuses to accept the opinion or label the teacher has applied on them and instead uses the support of others such as parents or other teacher to prove the teacher wrong

- strength is that based on the evidence collected in schools it could be used by teachers to make changes in schools
