Who was Nicholas II?
Nicholas II was the Tsar (Emperor) of Russia from 1894 to 1917.
Who was Alix von Hesse-Darmstadt?
Alix/Alexandra was a German princess who got married to Nicholas II and became Tsarina.
What was the ‘divine right of kings’ mean to the Tsar and Tsarina?
It meant that they believed they had been chosen by God to rule over the people, who had to obey without question.
What did the Tsar being an autocrat mean?
It meant that he had no parliamento do advise him or limit his power.
What was the Ohkrana and why was it created?
The Ohkrana was the Tsar’s secret police force. It was in charge of stopping terrorists and other opponents.
Who was Konstantin Pobedonotsev?
Konstantin was Tsar Nicholas II’s tutor. He had extremely conservative ideas and wanted the system to remain the same.
