- The 1 and 9 files are called Edge files
- The 2 and 8 files are called 2 and 8 files
- The 3 and 7 files are called elbow files

- The 5th file is called the central file

- First row: Bottom rank

What directions can the king move?
Up, down, left, and right. NEVER DIAGONAL
How much squares of the palace is usually controlled by the enemy before checkmate?
Usually 3 to 5 squares. Either by enemy or by pieces blocking the way
What directions can advisers go?
Inside palace and only move diagonally
What directions can elephants go?
They can go two squares diagonally. They can be blocked if something is in its diagonal way. They can not jump over pieces.
Fun facts: Elephants are easily trapped or threatened
