Advantage of Formation A:
- Throat rank is open for horizontal maneuvers of Chariots to switch flanks or to occupy the rib files
Disadvantage of Formation A:
- loses possibility to link the Elephants
Advantage of Formation B:
- The chariot where defenders cleared the way can move to the rib file directly
Disadvantage of Formation B:
- Own territory becomes divided along the central file
- The chariots can only use less than half of the throat rank for maneuvers
