RITUAL OF WUQUF

A

Journey and prayers at mount Arafat, entire day praying, devoting to one god (TAWID) in order to redeem sins, intense concentration of community praying e.g. Talbiyah, “Hajj is Arafat” - Muhammad reflects the efforts of Muhammads prayers and faith/dedication, reinforces RUSUL (belief of wisdom prophet and emulate his actions), community joined in spirit, individual focus on purifying themselves, achieve enlightenment = develop stronger connection and faith in ONE GOD TAWID.

A

The rite of stoning at pillars three times in Mina, symbolic of expelling their sins and ridding themselves from evilness/devil, significant as they look to renew themselves, “come out the day he or she was born” - Quran, to reach after life Akhira, adherents focus solely on Allah instead of external pressures (TAWID), each person can target their own sins, become part of many others in the renewed Umma, renew their connection with each other as reminded of judgement day (AKHIRA), without sins they are better people to others. “Hajj wipes out whatever sins came before” – Hadith

RITUAL OF TAWAF

A

Circling the Kaaba 7 times, symbolising belief in TAWID AND FATE AND PREDESTINATION, Physical expression of inward beliefs, symbolises circling of man made cosmic orbit and central power of Allah, monotheistic, submitting to the faith of central Allah who determines our fate, “it is he who created night and day” - Quran, circling holiest place on earth, thousands of individuals = communal connectedness.
