IV Fluids Flashcards
Define a hypertonic solution:
An IV Fluid that has more particles concentrated that what is found in the body. Body fluids will move out of cells and into the fluid.
Define a hypotonic solution:
An IV Fluid that has LESS particle concentration than what is found in the body. Water will move INTO the body cells.
Define an isotonic solution:
An IV Fluid that has the SAME particle concentration compared to body fluids. There is NO movement of water.
