Thornfield

A

Immature - restless after few months ‘discontented ‘ ‘ restlessness was in my nature ‘ . Language parallels imprisonment - “Sky of steel “ air is “vault like” and gothic imagery - “doors all shut like a corridor in some Bluebeard castle”. Rochester arrives Jane feels less restlessness and is enchanted by him “rather peculiar “ , “can’t tell if he speaks in jest or earnest” Rochester says he has a “contaminated memory” and is “as hard as an Indian rubber ball “ - similie and imagery .

Q

How was the supernatural shown in Jane Eyre

A

the strange little figure there gazing at me, with a white face and arms specking the gloom, and glittering eyes of fear moving where all else was still, had the effect of a real spirit: I thought it like one of the tiny phantoms, half fairy, half imp - Jane sees herself as a ghost. The laugh was repeated in its low, syllabic tone, and terminated in an odd murmur - Jane hears berthas demonic laugh
