Joints Flashcards
Which joints are functional & how do you know?
- synarthrosis, amphiarthrosis, diarthrosis
- ends in “-arthrosis”
Which joints are structural?
fibrous, cartilaginous, & synovial
Define a synarthrosis joint
aka fibrous; immovable (ex: cranial sutures)
Define a amphiarthrosis joint
aka cartilaginous; slightly movable (ex: pubis)
Define a diarthrosis joint
aka synovial; freely movable
What are the 6 types of synovial joints
- saddle
- gliding
- ball & socket
- condyle
- pivot
- hinge
What is the purpose of the joint capsule?
strength & protection
Describe a gliding joint & give an example
least ROM; tarsals & carpals
Give an example of a hinge joint
elbow, knee, phalanges
Give an example of Condyloid/ellipsoid joint
C1 (atlas), C2 (axis), carpals to radius
Give an example of a pivot joint
radius & ulna
Give an example of a ball & socket joint
