Joints Flashcards
What is the radiocarpal Joint?
synovial joint between the distal end of the ulna and the scaphoid, lunate and triquetral
ellipsoid joint
What movements does the radoiocarpal joint cause?
flexion, extension
abduction, adduction
dial and ulna deviation
What are the ligaments?
ulnar collateral ligament
attach to distal end of the ulna and styled process
distally attaches to the medial aspect of the triquetral
radial collateral ligament- distal end of the radius, styloid to trapezium
What do the ligaments do?
support the medial and lateral sides of the wrist joint during flexion and extension
What is the mid carpal joint?
synovial complex saddle between the proximal and distal rows of carpal bones
What movements does the mid carpal joint control?
flexion and extension
abduction and adduction
What is the first carpometacarpal joint?
synovial saddle joint between the trapezium and base of the 1st metacarpal
wide range of mobility to the thumb with support from radial collateral ligament
What movements does the carpometacarpal joint control?
opposition
flexion and extension
abduction and adduction
Intercarpal joints
synovial plane joints between individual carpal bones
small glides
What are the metacarpophalangeal joints?
Ellipsoid synovial joints articulate at the round metacarpal head with the base of the phalanx.
flexion, extension, abduction, adduction
Interphalangeal joints
hinge joints
reinforced by medial and lateral collateral ligaments and palmar ligaments
flexion and extension
