Linear motion
Motion that occurs in either a straight line or curved path.
Angular motion
Takes place when a body moves along a circular path around an axis.
Distance
How much ground an object covers throughout its motion.
Displacement
The difference between the initial position and the final position of an object with reference to direction.
Speed
The rate (how fast) a person/object is covering distance.
Velocity
How fast the person/object covers distance and what direction they have moved.
Acceleration
The rate the person/object is changing velocity.
Why learn biomechanics? (3 reasons)
-Describe and explain movement
-Determine optimal techniques to improve performance
-Helps to avoid injury
General motion
-Movement involves both linear and angular motion.
-Most human movement is GENERAL because we use joints to create force for motion.
