Buccal cavity?
Where we put food, which is chewed to be broken down, commonly known as the mouth. (Oral cavity)
Salivary glands?
produce saliva and moistens food to make it easier to swallow.
Epiglottis?
located beneath the tongue at the back of the throat, closes the trachea whilst eating to prevent it from going into the windpipe.
Oesophagus?
commonly known as the windpipe, it carries food from the mouth to the stomach.
Peristalsis?
squeezed the muscles which helps the food move down towards the stomach.
Stomach?
sac with muscular walls that churns the food to break it up. produces hydrochloric acid to digest food.
Small intestine?
Consists of the duodenum, ileum, absorbs nutrients and minerals from food.
Duodenum?
lined with villi, finer like projections on the wall that increase surface area and assist absorption of nutrients into bloodstream.
How does chemical digestion happen in the small intestine?
Large intestine?
consists of the colon and rectum, it absorbs water from the remaining undigested food and convert it into faeces.
Rectum?
it stores solid waste until it leaves the body through the anus.
Anus?
the opening those faeces is excreted from.
Liver?
breaks down toxins and old blood cells, it stores vitamins and iron
Gallbladder?
located below the liver responsible for storing bile secreted by the liver which is then released into the small intestine.
Concentrated bile which aids digestion.
Bile duct
transports bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine.
