A
Aim is to generate a picture or the offender, including likely characteristics, routine behaviour, and social background.
- developed in the UK.
- is far more grounded in psychological theory then top-down approach.
2
Q
Bottom up approach methods.
A
- systematic analysis of evidence left at the crime scene.
- does not begin with fixed typologies, instead the profile is data driven and emerges as the profiler engages in rigorous scrutiny of details of the offence.

Q
Investigative psychology: aim
A
To establish behaviours that are likely to occur at certain crime scenes.
- this is done to create a statistical database which then acts as a baseline for comparison.
- details of an offence can then be matched against the database in order to reveal statistically probable details about the offence.
- can also help determine is multiple offences are linked and likely to have been committed by the same individual.
