Diseases that are transmitted through sexual contact. All can be prevented, and most can be
cured
Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Lymphogranuloma Venereum,
Chancroid, Granuloma Inguinale
Bacterial
In women: cervicitis, urethritis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) with
vaginal discharge burning urination, lower abdominal pain. In men: urethritis with
burning urination, discharge. In ophthalmia neonatorum: purulent conjunctivitis

Syphilis
Infectious agent: Treponema pallidum.
Syphilis
Primary syphilis:
painless genital ulcer (chancre).
Secondary syphilis
fever, headache, malaise, myalgia, skin rash, and generalized
lymphadenopathy.
Latent syphilis
no symptoms, can last for years.
Tertiary syphilis
gumma (tumor-like mass of tissues in the skin, internal
organs, and bone).
Treatment Syphilis
antibiotics as penicillin.
is a bacterial sexually transmitted disease characterized by painful genital ulcers with painful inguinal lymphadenopathy.
Chancroid
may be asymptomatic, painful urination, genital pain, discharge from
vagina and penis, abnormal vaginal bleeding.
Chlamydia
