Lab Equipment Flashcards
Beaker
Holds Solids/Liquids that will. not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated
Erlenmeyer Flask
hold solids/liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated
Florence Flask
rarely ujsed in the first year of chem, used for the mixing of chemicals. Narrow necks prevent splash exposure
Graduated Cylindar
used to measure volumes of liquids
Gas Collecting Bottle
used when large volumes of gases are produced, and must be collected by the displacement of water
Test Tubes
hold, heat, or mix substances used in experimentation
Test Tube Holder
useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle
Test Tube Brushes
used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders
Test Tube Racks
used for holding and organizing test tubes onthe lab counter
Rubber Stoppers
used to close containers to avoid spillage/contamination
Spot Plates
used when we want to preform many small scale reactions at one time
Watch Glass
used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction
Glass Stir Rod
used to manually stir solutions or transfer a single drop of solution
Litmus Paper
red - to identify bases
blue - used to identify acids
Medicine Dropper
used to transfer a small volume of liquid
