Q
What are the three principles of aesthetic lasers?
A
- Selective Photothermolysis
- Pulse Duration
- Thermal Relaxation Time
1
Q
What does LASER stand for?
A
Light Amplification be the Stimulated Emission of Radiation
2
Q
What is TRT?
A
Thermal relaxation time
The TRT is the time necessary for target tissue to lose 50% of its heat to surrounding tissue due to thermal diffusion.
3
Q
What are the basic elements needed to achieve SPTL?
A
- A wavelength that reaches and preferentially is absorbed by the desired target.
- A pulse duration equal to or less than the TRT.
- Sufficient fluence to reach a damaging temperature in the target.

14
Q
What are the three properties of laser light?
A
- Monochromacity- all of the photons are the same wavelength
- Collimated- all of the photons are traveling parallel
- Coherent-all of the light waves are in phase
