Lasix MOA

A
  • Inhibits electrolyte reabsorption in the ascending Loop of Henley.
  • Promotes excretion of sodium, potassium, and chloride.
  • Increased venous capacity and decreases afterload due to vasodilation.

A
  • Pulmonary edema, secondary to renal failure
  • Congestive heart failure

Lasix Adult dose

A
  • IV Lasix: 0.5 – 1 mg/kg IV/IO slow (over 1 to 2 minutes); (max dose 40mg)
    • if no response, double the second dose to 2 mg/kg IV/IO slow (over 1 to 2 minutes); (max dose 40mg)
  • PO Lasix: 2x patient’s normal daily dose, if no effects in 20 min. may repeat with 2x first dose

  • Known hypersensitivity to Lasix or sulfa meds
  • Inability to urinate (anuria)
  • Hypovolemia
  • Hypotension
