Lecture 11 Flashcards
Antebrachium and Elbow
Anterior Compartment of forearm:
1) Common origin
2) Common fxn
3) Innervation
Medial epicondyle of humerus
Wrist and digit flexion
Medial and ulnar nerves
What are the superficial muscles of the antebrachium anterior compartment?
1) Pronator teres
2) Flexor carpi radialis
3) Palmaris longus (sometimes missing)
4) Flexor carpi ulnaris
What are the intermediate muscles of the antebrachium anterior compartment?
1) Flexor digitorum superficialis
- flexes middle phalanges of fingers 2-5 and prox phlanages (not distal)
- flexes each finger interdependently
- Median n
What are the deep muscles of the antebrachium anterior compartment?
1) Flexor digitorum profundus
- only m that can flex distal phalanges
- anterior interosseous a
- median and ulnar n.
2) Flexor pollicis longus
- flexes distal phalanx of thumb
- median n.
3) Pronator quadratus
- ulnar head of pronator teres
Posterior Compartment of forearm:
1) Common origin
2) Common fxn
3) Innervation
1) lateral epicondyle of humerus
2) primary wrist and hand extensors
3) All innervated by radial n via the deep branch of radial n or the posterior interosseous n
What are the superficial muscles of the antebrachium posterior compartment?
1) Brachioradialis
2) Extensor carpi radialis longus
3) Extensor carpi radialis brevis
4) Extensor digitorum
5) Extensor digitorum minimi
6 Extensor carpi ulnaris
1) Which two muscles have the same blood supply of: Radial collateral a., radial recurrent a., recurrent interosseous a., posterior interosseous a.?
2) What do they differ on? (other than fxn)
1) Extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis brevis
- longus and brevis both = extends and abducts hand at wrist
2) Innervation
- longus = radial n
- brevis = deep branch of radial n.
1) Which two muscles have the same blood supply of: Recurrent interosseous a., posterior interosseous a., and anterior interosseous a.?
2) What are they both innervated by?
1) Extensor digitorum and extensor digiti minimi
- digitorum = extends medial 4 fingers at MP and IP joints
- extends fifth (pinkie) finger at MP and IP
2) Posterior interosseous n
Brachioradialis:
1) action
2) blood supply
3) innervation
1) Flexes forearm when pronated
2) Radial collateral a, radial recurrent a, radial a.
3) Radial n
Extensor carpi ulnaris:
1) action
2) blood supply
3) innervation
1) Extends and adducts hand and wrist (medially)
2) Radial collateral a, recurrent interosseous a, posterior interosseous a
3) Posterior interosseous n
What are the outcropping muscles of the posterior compartment of forearm?
Abductor policis longus, extensor policis brevis, and extensor policis longus
(these are the deep muscles of the compartment - minus extensor indicis)
What are the 2 nerves of the anterior antebrachium?
Ulnar n and median n.
- ulnar supplies= flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor digitorum profundus
- median n supplies = rest of m in anterior compartment and crosses ant cubital fossa medial to brachial a
Ulnar artery forms the ______ arch, and is met by _____ on the ______ side.
Radial artery forms the _____ arch, and is met by ____ on the _______ side.
1) superficial palmar arch; radial a; lateral side
2) deep palmar arch; ulnar a; medial side
Radial artery pierces what muscle in the hand?
Doral interosseous m
What type of joint is the elbow complex?
Hinge, uniaxial
