Q

what is a combination reaction?

A

multiple reactants join together to become a single product (ex. Na2O + H2O becomes 2NaOH)

Q

what is a decomposition reaction?

A

a single reactant breaks down into multiple products (ex. 2Ag2O becomes 4Ag + O2)

Q

what is a single-displacement reaction?

A

a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element in a compound. “cheater reaction.” (ex. Mg + 2HCl becomes H2 + MgCl)

Q

what is a double-displacement reaction?

A

two ionic compounds “trade” partners. one or more of these products is always formed or there is no reaction. (ex. AgNO2 + NaCl becomes AgCl + NaNO2)
