Lecture: Upper Limb 1 Flashcards
Name all the bones of the upper limb (not including hand)
- Clavicle
- Scapula
- Humerus
- Radius
- Ulna
Describe the structure of the clavicle
Has an sternal end that articulates with the sternum, and an acromial end that articulates with the scapula
Describe the features of the scapula
- Spine: divides the supraspinous fossa and infraspinous fossa
- Glenoid fossa: meteoroid hole for humerous head articulation
- Coricoid process: protrudes anteriorly, stabilises shoulder
- Acromion process: lateral part of the scapula spine, clavicle attaches here
Describe the features of the humerus
- Anatomical + surgical head
- Tuberosities: muscle attachment, bicipital groove
- Epicondyles: muscle attachment
- Condyles: joints; articulation w/ other bone
Does the ulna or radius articulate with the hand?
Only the radius
Which carpal bones articulate with the arm?
Scaphoid and lunate; with the radius only!
Does the ulna or radius articulate with the humerus?
Only the ulna!
Name the features of the radius
- Ulnar notch
- Carpal articulation
- head and fovea
- Radial tuberosity
- Styloid process
Name the features of the ulna
- Trochlear notch (humerus attachment)
- Radial notch
- Olecranon process
- Styloid process
- Coronoid process
Describe the hand
has 2 rows of 4 carpal bones. Lateral connects to the metacarpals, phalanges
What are the joints of the clavicle?
- Acromioclavicular joint
2. Sternoclavicular joint
What are the ligaments of the clavicle?
- Sternoclavicular ligament
- Costoclavicular ligament
- Acromioclavicular ligament
- Coracoclavicular ligament
What is the glenohumeral joint?
Ball and socket
What are the supporting structures of the glenohumeral joint?
- Biceps tendon: prevents dislocation
- Coracoacromial lig: prevents superior dislocation
- Biceps: prevents anterior dislocation
Name the rotator cuff muscles/tendons
- Teres minor
- Subscapularis
- Supraspinatus
- Infraspinatus
