• remained a revered figure throughout soviet union & no de-leninisation
• decision to not share power was a fateful one
• power never shared - it’s hard to argue against view that stalin’s dictatorship was logical extension of lenin’s centralised regime
• lenin was more ruthless then sometimes supposed
• actively encouraged terror to smash enemies & fierce class warrior
