Lesson 1 : Pipets Flashcards
This are glass or plastic utensils used to transfer liquids, they may be usable or disposable.
Pipet
This design in pipet holds a particular volume but does not dispense an exact volume.
TC / To contain
This design in pipet will dispense the volume indicated.
TD/ to deliver
Enumerate the 5 measuring/ graduated Pipets.
- Serologic
- Mohr
- Bacteriologic
- Ball, kolmer or kahnn
- Micropipette
What are the 2 drainage characteristics of pipet?
Blow out pipet & Self-draining pipet
Enumerate the 4 transfer pipets that are usually used.
- Volumetric
- Ostwald - Folin
- Pasteur Pipet
- Automatic macropipets
This is a automatic pipet that dispenses < 1000 uL .
Micropipette
This type of pipet has continuous etched ring or two small, close continuous rings located at the top/ neck of the pippet last drop should be expelled into the receiving vesel.
Blow Out Pipet
This type of Pipets contents of the pipets are drain by gravity. The tip of the pippet should not be in contact with the accumulating fluid in the receiving vesel during drainage.
Self-draining pipet
This type of measuring/ graduated does not have graduation to the tip , Self-draining Pipet , should be allowed to touch the vessel while the pippet is draining.
Mohr Pipet
This type of measuring/ graduated pipet has graduation mark to the tip , Blow Out Pipet.
Serological Pipet
This type of Pipets that holds a volume<1 ml : maybe designed as either mohr or serologic pipet.
Micropipette
This type of Pipet is used with biological fluids having a viscosity greater than that of water and it has a 2 etched continuous ring at the top.
Ostwald- Folin
This type of Pipet is used to dispense aqueous solution.
Volumetric pipet
This type of Pipet do not have calibration marks and are used to transfer solutions or body fluids with out consideration of a specific volume.
Pasteur Pipet
