Q

How do we create light?

A

We can create light by converting other types of energy into light energy

Q

Can light energy be converted into other types of energy?

A

Yes and example would be when you concentrate light rays to one point with a lens to start a fire, you are converting light energy into heat energy

Q

What is “wave particle duality” when talking about light?

A

It means that light has properties similar to both those of waves and of particles

6
Q

Why does light have some of the same properties of particles?

A

Because it travels from one place to another in a straight line and it doesn’t bend around corners, needs to be bounced

The wave model

8
Q

Why do people use the “wave model”?

A

Because the wave model of light shows us that light travels through empty spaces in waves (doesn’t need a medium) and transfers energy from one place to another (ex: from the sun to the earth)

12
Q

How is the wavelength of a wave measured?

A

The wavelength of a wave is measured by the distance between each trough, or the distance between each crest

13
Q

How is the apmlitude of a wave measured?

A

The amplitude of a wave is measured by the distance between the crest (or trough) and the midline (the midline is an imaginary line that goes through the middle of a wave)

15
Q

True or false? The longer the wavelength, the higher the frequency and energy.

A

FALSE - the shorter the wavelength, the higher the frequency and energy.

16
Q

What is the speed of light (per second in a vacuum)

A

The speed of light is around 300 000 km per second in a vacuum

17
Q

True or false? The speed of light is constant as long as the light does not pass through a different medium

A

TRUE
