Why was it suitable to place Mary in the Midlands of England?

A

So she wasn’t near London or the sea so she has less of a chance to escape or create a threat to Elizabeth or the court. As well as traitors or spies couldn’t get to Mary.

Why was it good that Sheffield Manor Lodge place on a hill??

A

Could see for miles so if a rebellion happened or she tried to escape they could see before they got to the lodge so they had time to remove Mary.

why were there lots of other many houses around the same area?

A

In case of rebellion she could be moved to a different place or as she needs to be treated like a queen so she would have many places to stay

What were some of the limitations to the location???

A

Sheffield manor lodge had lots of land around it making it harder to guard more easily and there was also around 250 families living around the area which could be catholic which then they could talk to or try and rebel for Mary.

where was Mary kept before Sheffield Manor Lodge??

A

The Sheffield Castle which was easier to guard Mary as it had less land around it and it had a moat and more bigger structure that the lodge so it was harder to rebel at but Mary described it as a prison instead of a house.
