A

When bacteria (usually E.coli) gets into the urethra and causes an ascending infection

What are our usually defences

A
  1. local immune response
  2. structural: cells on the wall of the bladder secrete a glycoprotein creating a mucin layer
  3. washout: urines pressure flushes out bacteria (urine is also sterile)
  4. anti-microbial properties in prastatic fluid and urine
  5. periurethral normal flora in woman

catheterization, urinary obstruction (Causing urinary reflux)
