Controlled mobilisation

A

Is a therapeutic and prescriptive way of applying low intensity exercise in the management of cardiovascular activity in acutely I’ll patients

Q

Breathing exercises
- abdominal and deep breathing

A

Abdominal- decreases airway turbulence, releases shoulder girdle

DBE- increase lung volume ,increase ventilation, aid v/q match, increase diffusion

Q

Incentive spirometery and when to use

A

Used to encourage deep breathing ands prevent secondary chest infection
Used post op

Deep breath, then cough it out to close airways

6
Q

intermittent positive pressure breathing - bird

A

Applied during inspiration
Pushes patient into IRV (amount of air individual can inhale)
Patient triggered by taking a breath and then positive pressure is applied to the patients airway to set pressure level
Followed by passive expiration

15
Q

CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure)

A

It provides positive pressure throughout the whole respiratory cycle eg inspirations and expiration

Keeping the airway pressure higher than atmospheric throughout the whole respiratory cycle

Delivers constant flow of gas which exceeds patients demands

16
Q

What does CPAP increase

A

Increases FRC (functional residual capacity is the volume remaining in the lungs after a normal, passive exhalation- ) and CV (closing volume, where airway closure begins to occur)

17
Q

Neurophysiology facilitation

A

Use of proprioceptive stimuli producing a reflex which increases depth of inspiration

1) intercostal stretch
2) rib springing
