• calculate mass of solid needed
• weigh out in a weighing bottle, add to beaker, then reweigh bottle
• add distilled water and stir until dissolved
• pour through a funnel into a volumetric flask
• rinse beaker and glass rod with deionised water and add washings to flask
• fill flask to mark on neck - make sure the bottom of mensicus level with mark
• invert to mix
