What is a map?
A map is a graphical representation of a particular area. It shows the absolute location and direction of a place.
What is a globe?
A globe is a visual model of the Earth that shows only the main cities of the world.
Why do we need a map? Why do we need a globe?
We need a map to show a place and it’s features. It can also show a specific location.
We need a globe to view the world and only the main places. It is limited to only showing the whole earth.
Which one is more useful to find a location of a place - a map or a globe?
A globe is a 3D model of the earth. It is hard to carry and it shows the world in a very basic level. It also doesn’t give an exact location of a place.
However, a map can show the absolute location of a place. Since it is a 2D representation, it is easy to carry and store and it shows an area in a very detailed level.
So, a map is more useful to find a location of a place.
What are the 3 branches of Geography ? What comes under those three branches?
The three branches of geography are Physical, Environmental and Human Geography.
Under physical geography comes all the physical features like Rivers, Coasts and Erosion or Weathering. Under Environmental Geography comes all the Environmental effects like Animal Migration, Natural Disasters and Deforestation. And under human geography comes the human impact on the world like Urbanisation, Global Warming, and Human Migration.
Why does a geographer use the Tools of Geography?
He uses them to describe a place
How do we describe a place?
We describe a place by stating it’s:
Location (Latitude, Longitude, Continent/Country/State)
Relief (Height and Shape, Gradient, Part of Physical features)
Drainage (Water features)
Population (Crowded or empty?)
Settlement (How many people live in the area?, Villages, Towns, Cities)
Climate (Average temperature-High or low?)
What is Absolute Address?
