Male and Female Reproductive System Flashcards
Vagina

Fallopian tubes

Cervix
opening to the uterus; dilates to 10cm to allow baby to pass through.
Uterus
hollow, pear-shaped organ that’s home to the developing fetus; divided into two parts, the cervix and the corpus (main body of the uterus)
Menstruation
Refers to the periodic shedding of the uterine lining because fertilization did not occur.
Ovaries
small, oval-shaped glands located on either side of the uterus; the ovaries produce eggs and hormones
Endometrium
The lining of the uterus that thickens as the egg matures; this brings food and oxygen to the growing baby.
Penis
the male organ that carries the urethra (where urine and semen are discharged from)
Urethra
a tube in which sperm and urine leave through
Epididymis
a coiled tube where sperm matures
Testes (testicles)
a pair of glands (testicle) that produce sperm and testosterone
Vas Deferans
sperm travel into this tube and are stored here until they leave the body during ejaculation or are reabsorbed
Seminal Vesicle
a tiny organ that secretes fluid into nourish sperm
Scrotum
the sac that contracts/relaxes to move the testes closer or farther away from the body to regulate their temperature
