What are contour lines on a map?

A

They’re the orange lines all over the map

What do contour lines tell you?

A

Height of the land - by the no. marked on them
Steepness of the land - by how close together they are
Where the river comes from - the v-shape formed when contour lines cross points to the rivers source

A

They’re marked on maps, but also; black, blocky lines showing a cliff and close contour lines are evidence

A

Nearby land is high
River crosses many contour lines in short distance - steep
The rivers narrow - thin blue line

Nearby land is low
Rivers wide - thick blue line
It would join a river/lake
It will have large meanders
Crosses contour lines rarely - showing a gentle slope/gradient
